Mrs Joseph Kuhls Dies in Local Hospital Thursday Evening

Last Thursday, Mrs. Caroline Kuhls, wife of Joseph Kuhls, passed away in the local, hospital, at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 10 days.

Her death followed her husband exactly one month, Mr. Kuhls having died July 20 of this year.

Mrs. Kuhls had been in poor health about 4 months, following a fall from a step ladder, when she was fixing a screen. She fell backwards from the ladder and injured her spine. She was in bed two days, after the fall, but then was able to get up, and was not taken down again until two weeks before her death. On August 10th she was taken to the local hospital; but seeming to be partly paralyzed, and suffering a serious illness, little help could be administered, and she died at 6:15 p. m. Thursday.

An inquest was held at the Bruegge Funeral Parlors Saturday night, and a verdict of accidental death by fall from step ladder, was returned.

Mrs. Kuhls was born in Breese May 10, 1867, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Mayer. When 16 years old she began work in St. Louis, and in 1903, was married Jos. Kuhls in this city, and they lived here ever since. No children were ever born to this union.

Mrs. Kuhls was a very pleasant woman, never complaining, and had always worked hard. She was very appreciative of any favors shown her and always tried to give something in return. She was a member of St. Augustine's Church, and attended services regularly.

The funeral was held Monday morning from St. Augustine Church, Rev. Eckert officiating. Pallbearers were: Herman Timmermann, Frank Nieman, Harry Wieter, Herman Huelskamp, Arthur Feltrop, Harry Wieter and Ed Herbst. The remains were laid to rest aside of her husband, in St. Dominic's Cemetery.

Deceased leaves a niece, Mrs. Herm. Bargmann of St. Louis and the fol'lowing nephews, Alfred, Ben, Joe and Oscar Mayer of St. Louis, and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Anna Kuhls of St. Louis and Mrs. Temple Donaldson of Nokomis.

Among those who attended the funeral from out of town, are: Mrs. Adolph Kuhls, Elizabeth, Angeline, Dorothy and George Kuhls, all of St.

Louis.

Note:

John Ratermann reports he has not been able to find markers in the cemetery for either Caroline or her husband, Joseph.
