FORMER RESIDENT OF AVISTON PASSES AWAY AT BREESE

(The Carlyle Union Banner - Friday, January 30, 1942 by Aviston Reporter)

Mrs. Agnes Rakers aged 82 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Middeke of Breese January 18.

Mrs. Rakers was born in Baeman [sic], Germany and later came to this country. The deceased was in failing health, due to old age. She was the widow of the late Henry Rakers.

To this union eleven children were born, one daughter preceding her mother in death.

The Rakers family formerly lived on a farm northwest of Aviston and later Mr. and Mrs. Rakers retired and moved to their home in Aviston.

After the death of her husband, Mrs. Rakers made her home with her daughter in Breese until her death.

She was a good Catholic and attended church services whenever she was able. She was a patient mother, kind neighbor and a staunch friend.

Mrs. Rakers was a member of the Married Ladies' Sodality of the Aviston parish and the members attended the funeral in a body.

She is survived by the following children; Caroline Rakers, of northwest of Aviston; Mrs. Anna Wolter and Mrs. Rose Lampe of northeast of Aviston; Mrs. Theresia Kauling and Mrs. Mary Middeke and Herman Rakers of Breese; Ben Rakers of near Aviston; Gerhardt and Henry Rakers of near Mascoutah; and Mrs. Kampwerth of Beckemeyer. A number of grandchildren also survive.

The remains were prepared for burial at the Brefeld Funeral Home in Aviston and lay in state at the Middeke home in Breese until funeral which was held Thursday morning, of last week at nine o'clock, from the St. Francis church in Aviston. A solemn requiem high mass was sung for the repose of the deceased's soul. Rev. George Lohman, pastor, was the celebrant of the requiem high mass; Rev. Robert Hutch of Aviston was deacon and Rev. Mueller of Breese was subdeacon. After the services the funeral cortage [sic] slowly made its way to the St. Francis cemetery, where the remains were tenderly laid to rest. May God grant her eternal rest.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the bereaved.
