Genealogy is an auxiliary historical discipline (applied historical discipline) and deals with the study of kinship relationships of people, the history of families, the origins of individuals, the establishment of kinship ties, the compilation of genealogical lists and genealogical trees.

A genealogical tree is a chart that shows the family relationships, most often direct ancestors and descendants (parent-child relationship). Sometimes siblings are added. A tree with all blood relatives is very rarely filled in, because of the huge amount of information.
